Navigating the Economy with Nimbin's Unique Strengths

Like many across Australia, small businesses in Nimbin face ongoing economic challenges as we enter the last quarter of 2024. However, Nimbin’s strength lies in its vibrant, alternative community, which reflects Aquarian values. We offer a unique experience. Nature is at our doorstep, with rainforest walks, waterfalls, and exceptional scenic beauty.

The Nimbin community's focus on the environment, holistic values, artistic pursuits, and wellness attracts those seeking relaxation and personal growth. Many community members warmly welcome visitors, helping to create meaningful connections and enhancing their experience in Nimbin.

One of our greatest strengths is the local support for businesses. Nimbin operates as a circular economy, where much of the money earned locally is often returned to local companies and then returned to the residents who work in the community. This cycle of local spending helps sustain our economy, foster growth, and strengthen community bonds.

We consistently achieve impressive results in the realm of entertainment. In the past month alone, Nimbin community members have created and presented significant events such as the Spring Arts Festival, the Poetry World Cup, the Nimbin A&I Show, the Sonic Bloom Dance Party, and the Nimbin Fashion Show. These events showcase our town's spirit and provide valuable, unique experiences for residents and visitors to Nimbin alike.

The Chamber general networking event on September 17th at the Nimbin Bush Theatre was a great success, filled with insightful talks, local connections, and inspiring ideas. We were fortunate to hear from several distinguished speakers who are making a difference in our community: Ken Jones and Carly Chapman from Rainbow Power Company, Loris Bianco from Nimbin Tax & Accounting, and Virginia Waters, Nimbin’s very own Greens successful candidate for Lismore City Council. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow business owners and community leaders, fostering collaboration and strengthening relationships within our local area.

We would also like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Diana Roberts, former Nimbin Chamber of Commerce president and foundational member of many other community organisations throughout her rich history, including a stint as a councillor in the Lismore City Council from 1991 to 2004. Diana recently attended a meeting in Sydney where she was awarded the well-deserved OAM (Order of Australia Medal). We thank you, Diana, for your extraordinary contribution to our community.

Additionally, local business Mountaintop Coffee is congratulated for winning the top gold in the Piccolo and Plunger categories and Champion Coffee with its Nimbin Blend. Their success demonstrates the high quality of local products and reflects the thriving entrepreneurial spirit within our community.

The Chamber would also like to welcome five new members: Loris Bianco from Nimbin Tax & Accounting, Aki and Aki from Nimbin Shokudou restaurant, Arwen Beaton, Liz Wilson Art, and Ryan Dylan. Alone we are faster, together we are stronger. We look forward to introducing you all to the Chamber and community at future networking events.

As a community, we’re resilient. By focusing on what makes Nimbin unique and continuing to work together, we can navigate these economic challenges and ensure our town remains a destination like no other.
